Say Hello

Your experience begins with our first conversation. As an experienced Chicago newborn photographer I’ve learned that the best sessions are the ones where we’ve taken the time to get to know each other. In a 20-minute phone call, let’s dream up your ideal session and talk through expectations, locations, and dream scenarios. Prefer to plan your session via e-mail? No problem, let me know!

The Big Day

During the photo session, your job is simply to relax and be present with your partner and your sweet family. We will schedule a time when the light is best in your home or the studio. While you relax I’ll work my magic settling baby into relaxed and natural poses. We will follow baby’s lead and take any necessary breaks for nursing, bottles, pumping and diapering.

the Newborn portrait experience

As a Chicago newborn photographer, I often meet new babies before their closest relatives—and I’m honored to join you in celebrating this sacred time. Newborn portraits usually take place 7 to 21 days after birth. Photographing baby during these early days ensures they are more easily settled and helps you to remember all their tiny details (which fade so fast!)

Your biggest decision is whether you want to do an in-studio or in-home session. My studio sessions offer a peaceful and comfortable environment that gives you the chance to relax while I work with your little one. I have studio locations in West Town, Naperville or the southwest suburbs. The main advantages of working in the studio are the perfect lighting and my ability to work quickly and efficiently. In the studio, I create classic portraiture focused on form and emotive posing. I also include portraits with my bespoke backdrops (painted with love by yours truly).

If you have a home filled with natural light and a desire to document the home itself as part of the story of this season of life, then doing an in-home session can be a beautiful choice. It’s important to be realistic about the in-home option though—while it’s a meaningful and convenient location for you, it's important to know it's not a replacement for a studio session if that's your desired look. Should we end up with a cloudy day, I'll bring artificial lighting to ensure beautifully lit images.

I encourage you to go with the best choice for you and your family! I’m excited to be part of it no matter where our session takes place.

LOVE NOTES FROM MY CLIENTS

"I know she’s popular–sometimes photographers are hard to get a hold of or schedule. She’s just as busy but she’ll make time. She was accommodating with scheduling."

questions:

To ensure my availability, I recommend booking during your second or early third trimester. I do my best to accommodate sessions booked after baby arrives, but it's not always possible and it breaks my heart to turn families away.

To best serve my clients, I accept a limited number of newborn bookings each month. I'll ask for your due date when you inquire, but we won't choose an exact date until after baby arrives. I'm a firm believer that babies are due when they are ready and I want you to be feeling your best as well.

To reserve your date, I'll need a contract as well as a deposit. Once baby arrives, please let me know the happy news so we can begin planning your session!

Babies typically relax and fall asleep during portrait time. A warm environment, soft swaddles, and a cozy beanbag ensures a happy babe! I describe my newborn sessions as natural and baby-led. We will do our best to coordinate a time when baby is fed and ready to rest. I'll gently guide them into natural poses on my posing beanbag and we will pause as necessary if any of baby's needs arise.

It's no secret, I love beautiful dresses. However, the reason why might surprise you! Flowing dresses add movement, light, and softness to your photos. They help to tell the story in your portraits and are as functional as they are pretty. Simple is the name of the game while we plan your session and nothing elaborate needs to be purchased. I'm proud to offer a client closet of dresses which are comfortable and flattering for postpartum mothers.

Once you book with me, I will send over a style guide full of ideas for the whole family. I include a list of local boutiques and salons that will ensure you and your family are taken care of and looking your best!
